What Are the Benefits of a Medical Peel?

As we age, the effects of sun damage, stress, and the aging process itself can lead to issues with our skin. Medical peels offer a powerful way to reverse that damage, removing dead epidermal (skin) cells, improving skin texture, enhancing the appearance of fine lines, fading hyperpigmentation, & other blemishes in a way that is safe, effective – & which offers rapid results.

As a medical practice with many years of clinical experience, our highly trained Studio team is always ready to talk you through the details of each test, treatment & therapy that we offer, giving you the peace of mind that you are in safe hands! When you come in for a medical peel, we will explain the science behind the process & ascertain exactly which medical peel is suited to you & your skincare goals.

We offer a number of medical-grade peels that range from milder to more powerful, with the peel targeting anything from superficial (surface layer) chemical peels to deep-level medical-grade peels that target deep into the skin. We look at factors such as the skin issues that you would like to target (e.g., acne), skin texture, skin elasticity & skin color when choosing exactly the right peel procedure.

We will advise you if the strength & depth of the peel requires any adaptations to your routine, such as staying out of the sun, pausing the use of face creams that include retinol, taking antiviral medication that we will prescribe, or simply using sunscreen for a specific length of time.

What Exactly Happens During a Medical Peel?

We perform medical peels in the comfort of our Doctors Studio treatment rooms. First, we apply a high-quality, gentle cleansing product that is designed to cleanse your skin and remove any dirt and excess oils. Then we apply a chemical solution such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid which are designed to cause a controlled micro-injury to the tissues of the skin.

This then allows us to peel the topmost layer of skin away to remove a new layer. The exact choice of chemical and chemical concentration will depend completely on your unique needs, your skin, your medical history & your skincare goals – which is why it is fundamentally important that you always use a highly qualified & experienced medical practitioner such as the Doctors Studio for your medical peel.

There are three kinds of peels that you can choose from  – a light/superficial peel, a medium-grade medical peel, or a deep medical peel.

Light/mild medical peels are relatively superficial & can cause subtle improvements, such as improved acne, a wonderful exfoliating effect, or improvement of sun damage.

medium-grade medical peel can create a smooth, noticeably glowing look as the outermost & middle skin layers are removed. This may be the best choice for you if you have more extensive hyperpigmentation, some acne scarring, melasma, or relatively fine wrinkles.

Deep medical peels can powerfully rejuvenate and bring that glow to the skin that has more extensive issues, such as deeper wrinkles, some precancerous growths, more extensive sun damage, &/or extensive acne scarring. A deep peel can require notable pre-and post-treatment, including the use of antiviral medication, while the lighter peels involve little post-procedure effects.

Skin will be more sensitive to sunlight immediately following any medical peel procedure, so it is always important to follow recommendations regarding the protection of your skin & the use of sun cream.
