Peyronie’s Disease (PD) is a devastating disease to MANY men since it can lead to disfigurement, shrinkage, social withdrawal, shame, and depression.

Here is what the Mayo Clinic has to say:

“Peyronie’s (pay-roe-NEEZ) disease is a noncancerous condition resulting from fibrous scar tissue that develops on the penis and causes curved, painful erections. Penises vary in shape and size, and having a curved erection isn’t necessarily a cause for concern.”

In PD, inflammation, and scar tissue form along the shaft of the penis. Though the cause for PD is not well understood, it seems likely to be an autoimmune process that attacks the fibrous band called the tunica albuginea. Interestingly, many men with PD will also have these fibrous abnormalities appear in the tendon of the hands, feet, and eardrum where the collagen tissue is similar.

There is no doubt that PD is a sudden inflammation that is sometimes triggered by repeated mild trauma during sexual intercourse.

Interestingly, many men with PD will also have these fibrous abnormalities appear in the tendon of the hands, feet, and eardrum where the collagen tissue is similar.

It can start by feeling an unusual discomfort or sensation and a small firm lump may appear. If you are lucky, the process will stop, and the lump will remain small before it regresses a bit. If you are not so lucky, the inflammation will continue, a larger area of scarring will ensue, and deformation begins as a slight curvature and may progress to a devastating curve and an “hour-glass” deformity takes hold. Pain can continue with erection for several weeks.

These changes can occur suddenly or slowly over time. ED can occur in some cases because the scar can create a venous leak. Sometimes the curve is severe enough to prevent comfortable penetration for both partners. In more than a third of men, there is a gradual improvement over 12 to 18 months without any specific treatment. In others, the scarring is permanent or worsens over time.

Penis Fracture Is Not Peyronie’s

If the penis has been injured by sudden trauma, most men will be able to recall the event. Often there will be a sensation or sound of a “snap” followed by loss of erection and the appearance of a bruise. Part of the penis will remain painful for a time. But usually, the area will heal over time. However, scar tissue may form and cause a new curvature. This problem is different from Peyronie’s. It rarely results in difficulties with erections or shortening of the penis.

The Penile Duplex Doppler Ultrasound (PDDU) is excellent for diagnosing Peyronie’s and locating the fibrous scar. The scar is located and measured at baseline so that progress is monitored. We evaluate your plaque buildup within the penile tissue and the severity of your condition and determine the best course of treatment accordingly.

      Microvascular Diagnostics: GlycoCheck

Erections depend upon the function of your microvascular and capillary system. You may look and even feel healthy on the outside, but inside your microvascular system, a completely different situation could be developing.

Organ starvation is one reason that diseases begin in the body. When the capillaries begin to lose their function, vital organs don’t receive the nutrients needed to be healthy and the silent spiral of health decline begins. Often one of the first signs of microvascular disease is a change in erections quality.

Some men with Peyronie’s Disease improve without treatment. Some will have mild symptoms that can be tolerated and do not interfere with sexual activity. In either case, you may choose not to seek treatment.

The good news is that Peyronie’s Disease does not develop into cancer or other serious conditions.

There are new treatments available for men with Peyronie’s Disease that can be effective. Treatments like PRP can stop the inflammation and soften the fibrous tissue enough for improvement. PRP can help rebuild collagen to “fill-in” an hourglass deformity, decreasing the shame associated.

Shockwave therapy can also help to regenerate normal tissue, soften the plaque and stop inflammation. Combining these treatments can be a real gamechanger for many men.

Peyronie’s Disease is thought to affect about 6 out of every 10 men between the ages of 40 and 70. If you are worried about the curvature of your penis and want to find out what can be done, call us today.

The first step to resolving the horrors of Peyronie’s Disease is a consultation and evaluation.

The Studio Team is here to serve you.

After our initial consultation, we start with a full assessment of your erection status by an expert using a dynamic duplex Doppler ultrasound, or otherwise known as PDDU.

You also have the opportunity to discuss your specific challenges and goals with a sexual medicine expert.

Once we have completed the PDDU and a very comprehensive review of your medical history, we will create a blueprint for success that is customized to the TRUTH about your specific challenges.
