What is Low Dose Naltrexone?

LDN is a powerful broad-spectrum immune system modulator.  This means that it can be effective at decreasing inflammation for general wellness and longevity as well as with several chronic disease states.

In fact, recent studies have shown LDN to be a safe and effective alternative or adjunctive therapy for rheumatologic, gastrointestinal, autoimmune, and psychiatric inflammatory conditions.

You may know LDN as Naltrexone, used safely for over 40 years to treat opioid addiction due to its effectiveness at blocking opioid receptors, and endorphin production.  When these processes occur, they lead to a stabilization of the immune system and a shift in systemic inflammation.

Naltrexone is in fact very effective for alcohol and opioid addiction at higher doses. When use in low doses, in an off-label prescription, LDN has been found to effectively reduce inflammation in obesity, autoimmunity, fatigue, and chronic pain.

LDN Works to Increase Longevity

The production of endorphins, stimulated by LDN, is important to longevity primarily to decrease inflammation, facilitate neurotransmitter production, and also as an activator of cellular clean up called autophagy.  In other words, LDN promotes the cell self-cleaning system.

There are several common low endorphin states such as depression, cognitive impairment, and fibromyalgia.  Keeping an endorphin called Opioid Growth Factor (OGF) at optimal levels, helps to keep the immune system strong and functional.  LDN increases OGF in the body, thus supporting a healthy immune response and an anti-inflamed cellular environment.

How Does It Work?

Through a complex process of receptor stimulation, saturation, receptor regeneration, and growth factor production starting with the opioid receptor, LDN initiates a flood of endorphins that stimulate these new and improved receptors and assist in regulating cell growth - reducing inflammation, increasing immunity, promoting healing, and initiating autophagy.

Cancer Prevention

As previously mentioned, LDN increases endorphin production.  When this happens, stem cells and selective immune cells, especially natural killer cells (NK) are affected, adding significant health and wellness benefits.

Different dosing strategies are shown to have an effect on killing cancer cells by making them more susceptible to chemotherapy.  In addition, some genes are affected by LDN that support certain types of cancer cell death.
