Acid Reflux

Get rid of Acid Reflux Forever. First, let’s address the cause. Then it’s gone for good.

Stop Acid Reflux from Leaving a Bad Taste in Your Mouth!

Acid reflux occurs after we’ve eaten. Instead of remaining in the stomach and being digested, some of the food comes back up the throat, causing a horrible feeling of tasting vomit in the mouth, &/or a nasty burning sensation, alongside possible heartburn so severe that some sufferers suspect that they are having a heart attack. With 20% of all Americans thought to suffer from acid reflux and an acid reflux medication market predicted to be worth over $6 billion by 2027, many sufferers have resigned themselves to years-long use of OTC or prescribed drugs & constant, ongoing discomfort.

For Doctors Studio clients, however, there is another way.

The Doctors Studio Advantage

Like Danice, there is simply no reason to struggle for years, or to take medication that doesn’t help.

We’ve helped countless clients become medication free, overhauling their life & eradicating long-standing medical issues (including acid reflux) that have blighted their life for way too long. We treat the whole person, not just one abstract medical issue, finding the exact cause of dysfunction & rectifying it, then optimizing the health of that person & leaving them feeling better than they ever have done before.

In the case of acid reflux and GERD, sometimes, radical lifestyle interventions, such as our fantastic gut microbiota & nutrition screening programs can highlight exactly the foods and beverages that a client needs to avoid, while hormonal & other interventions can rapidly help to mobilize fat loss, leading to great relief from symptoms. Food intolerances, smoking cessation strategies and other interventions, when taken together, can allow many clients to come off medication altogether, with a complete cessation of their symptoms.

What is Acid Reflux, Exactly?

Acid reflux occurs when the sphincter muscle in the lower end of your esophagus relaxes at the wrong time, allowing stomach acid to travel up your esophagus into your throat & mouth. If you suffer from acid reflux regularly it can cause a condition known as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Around 20% of Americans currently suffer from GERD, with complications including esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus that can cause ulcers & bleeding), esophageal stricture (a narrowing of the esophagus that can make swallowing difficult), and a heightened risk of asthma, chronic cough, hoarseness laryngitis & the wearing away of tooth enamel.

Why Is It Beneficial to Treat Acid Reflux Without Synthetic Medications?

While proton pump inhibitor medications prescribed for acid reflux and GERD can offer major relief for some, they do come with potential side-effects, such as an increased risk of infection from the bacterium Clostridium difficile, which can cause severe diarrhea, even lead to the removal of the colon and in very rare cases, can lead to death. Amongst postmenopausal women, proton pump inhibitors were also found to potentially increase the risk of bone fracture. Menopausal women are almost 3 times more likely to suffer from GERD symptoms, so we would particularly advise this group to consider alternatives to medication.

Around 30% of patients prescribed proton pump inhibitors require them for advanced GERD symptoms, such as ulcers and Barrett’s esophagus (a precancerous condition affecting the lining of the esophagus). However, the remaining majority of sufferers whose symptoms are far milder may well benefit far more powerfully from a range of lifestyle interventions such as:

  •  Losing body fat
  •  Cutting out alcohol
  • Stopping smoking
  • Smaller meals
  • Eating more slowly
  • Avoiding specific trigger foods, such as spicy foods, onions, garlic, fatty food, coffee, chocolate & alcohol
  •  Avoiding fizzy (carbonated) drinks
  • Using the power of gravity! Remain standing or sitting up after eating & don’t life down for a few hours afterward
  • Reviewing medications that you are currently taking which might exacerbate the problem

Don’t Let Acid Reflux Blight Your Life

Acid reflux is a common problem, and can even be caused by stress, which depletes your body’s production of prostaglandins, which usually work to protect the stomach from the effects of stomach acid. Whatever the cause – whether menopausal, caused by weight gain, poor food choices, smoking, alcohol consumption, large meal sizes, frequently sleeping after eating, stress, or any other reason – we can help you fight it, overhauling your health & wellness in exactly the right ways to eliminate acid reflux and GERD symptoms for good, and bringing back the joy to mealtimes again!
